Dental implants have been in routine clinical use for over three decades and are a predictable treatment modality that has permanently changed dentistry. However, as with all other aspects of dentistry, complications occur. These complications can be either biological, biomechanical, esthetic or a combination and can present at various times for a multitude of reasons.
Biological complications
At first glance, this dental implant appears healthy; upon probing, a 7mm pocket depth with BOP was discovered.

Biomechanical complications
Poor crown design and excess cement can be catastrophic for dental implants.

Aesthetic complications
Periodontal plastic surgery [i.e. Connective Tissue Grafting] allows us to create the illusion of root eminence and/or avoid a possible aesthetic complication with dental implants.
